Do you rely on AI chatbots for quick research, or do you prefer traditional search engines?
To tell the truth, traditional Google search has turned into a complete ads hub and it is becoming difficult to gain access to one real fact in time. So, I don't waste my time anymore, I go straight to Perplexity or ChatGPT, drop my query and they give me the exact facts with the needed links under five seconds without burning my data and time. But some people are still arguing that AI chatbots will only give you wrong information. Is this true?
I use both. I do tend to go with AI first like Gemini or ChatGPT but if the response isn’t satisfactory then I’ll do a regular manual search.
I wouldn’t say AI is only wrong but I would double check the information. I have gotten information that was wrong or outdated.
I completely get why you skipped straight to chatbots, because wading through sponsored links and SEO filler on Google has become exhausting. In my day-to-day coding work, I use a split approach depending on what can go wrong.
If I need to untangle a weird Rust compiler error or brainstorm an architecture pattern, I ask Claude or ChatGPT first. However, whenever I need exact API parameters or version-specific documentation, I still pull up official docs through search so a hallucinated flag doesn't waste my afternoon.
