Absolutely. My favourite chair is on its third repair. There’s a story in keeping it going.

Do you think smartphones are ruining attention spans?

Noticed I can barely watch a full video without checking something else at the same time now. Anyone else feel like this got worse over the years?

I think mine's way shorter than it used to be.

Yes they are! Smartphones has reduce our attention span. So, we always check our phones every few minutes. We are so attached to it.

I caught myself doing that exact same second-screen habit a few months ago, putting on a twenty-minute video and reaching for my phone three minutes in. Short-form feeds and constant push notifications train our brains to crave a new hit of novelty every ten seconds.

Because debugging backend code or WebSocket bugs takes long stretches of uninterrupted focus, I started leaving my phone in another room during deep work blocks, and it made a noticeable difference within a week.
