Are Students Learning Less Because of AI Assistance?

AI can help us learn various subjects. In fact, AI can help us learn complex topics. So, I think that AI can actually help students in many ways, and I do not think that students are having a harder time learning different things. So, is AI actually beneficial for students?

Not at all. I finished school years ago and I can tell you that I'm learning more with AI than ever before in my life. So, a student is definitely learning a lot thanks to AI. Based on my experience and reading the experiences of several people in various places, I confirm that you learn more with the use of AI.

AI can cause brain stagnation that in turn will result in the inability to think for oneself in course of time. It can also trigger amnesia, dementia and Alzheimer's

I remembeer as a kid when there was a riddle being mentioned and adults would rush to answer we as kids would shoo them away That is what AI is doing now

I do not think that AI will make us any less smarter. AI could help solve many riddles. It can also teach us how to solve riddles. AI is just getting smarter each year and Thisbi a really good thing. AI could perhaps make us smarter as well. We may learn many things from AI. AI is also helping many people learn a new language.

This is beyond my generation. I have one daughter who is trying to get her college degree. She does not like using AI. However, her complaint is not using AI to help her with her studies. She complains that the professors are too lazy to manually grade papers AND … on top of that … they accuse students of using AI when they can't PROVE IT!! It's very aggravating.

Is not that students are learning less cause the truth is with AI they actually have more access to information and materials for learning. The problem is that AI has made them become too lazy to put in actual effort to learn and improve themselves.

Well, this depends on the students. AI tools could be used in many innovative ways. If a person chooses to be lazy, then I guess that we should not blame AI for that. The main job of AI is to offer information related to any kind of topic. It is up to us how we use the information in order to learn new things.

That's a fair point though, at the end of the day the tool itself is not to be blamed but the user. It's just so unfortunate that we have tons of people using it the wrong way than those using it the right way.

I think that we should never underestimate how much we could learn from AI. However, we much also acknowledge the fact that AI could make mistakes and I have myself corrected AI on several occasions. Deepseek says ChatGPT is wrong and ChatGPT says that DeesSeek is wrong. Sometimes they seem to contradict each other.

Lol i have also had times where i had to point out certain errors or mistakes to chatGPT as well. This goes to show that AI is still not perfect so one shouldn't blindly take every information they get from it.

Well, I think students are definitely getting lazier as they can't handle anything related to critical thinking because of easy access to AI tools. If you ask an average student to write basic essay now, they just throw a prompt into an AI app, then copy and paste the response.

I agree that AI can be a phenomenal tutor when a student actually wants to understand the material. When I taught web development courses on Udemy back in 2023, I noticed that beginners usually get stuck on small, frustrating syntax errors that kill their momentum.

Having an assistant explain why a function failed in plain English keeps them moving forward. The problem only starts when students copy-paste full assignments without reading the logic, because then they freeze the moment something breaks.
