Free vs Paid AI

What version of AI do you prefer? The paid or the free version?

For me I prefer the free because most AI paid accounts are about $30-$40 NZD a month for me where that money could be spent elsewhere.

The thing I struggle with AI is with the free version there is a daily limit for images and sometimes the AI doesn't get my prompts right and whenever I have to get it to try again I lose my daily credits.

I much prefer the free version of AI for what I use AI for. I guess if I were to be using AI more and for things that were really helping me make money, I would consider the paid side of things.

Free always gives me the results I am looking for and I am happy with that.

I'm so frugal! I do free and put up with the limitations even though I complain out loud about it, and sometimes to my friends online. There are so many AI platforms that if I use up my credits at one, I just go to the next one.

I always believed that paid AI tools have great analysis capabilities and this also includes better reasoning abilities as well. I have, however, never tried the paid version of AI ever.

I am not much into AI It is AI that rushes to answer all my Google Search Questoons.

Google's built-in AI tool is not accurate at all. It merely outs results of different websites into one place and "information" available on those sites could be very misleading. The same is the case with tools like perplexity. This is why no one should ever trust these tools.

I prefer the free version simply because they are free, and i don't have the extra cash to pay for an ai tool, but let's be honest the paid versions often offer more features and a much more smoother process compared to the free version.

The paid version of ChatGPT is not that expensive at all. I think the paid plan starts with just $20 as far as I know. Apart from that, paid plan also offers a much better access to research tools. ChatGPT itself offers well-researched answers and responses to queries when it comes to the paid plan.

$20 in my local currency is around 27 or 28,000 that's running close to 30k over here that's considered expensive especially now with the state of the economy. Though if it's an app i have to use for work or on a regular basis, i might have to find a way to constantly pay that.

That's understandable. I reckon that many people buy the paid version of ChatGPT when they need to do extensive research about any kind of topic. For example, a student may need to buy ChatGPT's premium plan in case if they want to write a thesis and if they need a tool that enables them to conduct deep research in a flawless manner.

Paying $30 to $40 every month for AI subscription is now a luxury abeg. A lof of the free plans I have seen handles 80 percent of my daily tasks.

$30-$40 a month definitely adds up fast, especially when every single tool wants its own recurring subscription now. For casual questions or quick summaries, the free tiers on ChatGPT, Claude, and DeepSeek are more than enough.

I only pay for API access or a pro plan when I'm actively shipping client work, like building custom RAG pipelines or debugging heavy Python and Rust repositories, where hitting a message cap mid-afternoon actually costs me billable hours. Otherwise, I stick to free tiers and local models.
